Hi Ya’ll! My name is Jamie Tryon. I am a Texas native, a French-trained chef, and a mom who enjoys the gift of cooking. I believe cooking should be fun and stress-free, which is why I created this blog to share my knowledge of cooking. I wanted to share cooking tips I’ve learned during culinary school, my time working in professional kitchens, and my family’s old cooking secrets.
I come from a long line of great professional, and home cooks. You can say cooking is in my blood! although I am a professional chef and have worked in many kitchens, I have a very laid-back approach to cooking. I believe you should cook what you feel like cooking, the way YOU feel like cooking it! I hope that my laid-back approach inspires you to get in the kitchen and mix it up
My Resume
I started working in restaurants at the age of 20 and decided that I wanted to pursue a career as a professional chef. After completing culinary school, I worked in restaurants and as a caterer until my daughter had a health scare that changed the course of my life. I left the career of my dreams to focus on my family. Now that my family is thriving, I am back to doing what I love to do, which is to share my love of food with everyone.
A Dedication To My Mom
My mom has always been a big part of who I am and why I wanted to cook. Growing up in the South, food has always been a big part of our culture. My family rarely ever ate out. My mom not only cooked every meal, she also cooked for others too! People loved her cooking! She would sell her dishes at her church’s bake sales and people would rave about her dishes, including her homemade Gumbo and Peach Cobbler.
I can’t think back to a time when I didn’t smell bell pepper, onion, and garlic simmering in her kitchen. Believe it or not, when I was a young girl, I never even wanted to cook! My mom would always try to get me into the kitchen to help, but I wasn’t interested. By the time I was an adult, everything had changed! I was now in love with using my hands to chop, cut, peel, mix, and stir. To top it all off, I just knew intuitively how to cook. It was as if it was second nature for me. When I decided to go to culinary school, I just knew my mom was happy that I had taken an
interest in something she also loved. I thank my mom every day for teaching me by example how to be a servant. Cooks do so because we love to share the good feelings associated with a warm meal. My mom sadly passed away from cancer, but her memories live on through her food, the lessons she taught us, and most of all, her love.
Thank you Mom 🧡
