This mac and cheese recipe is creamy, cheesy, and oh-so-easy to make. This is my favorite mac and cheese recipe for a quick lunch or a super easy dinner. It is also a simple, delicious, and budget-friendly meal made with ingredients found in your everyday kitchen.

I love whipping this up because the kids go crazy for it and it only takes and it gives me time back during busy weeks.

5 MINUTE MAC INGREDIENTS

Jump to the bottom of the recipe card below this post for full ingredient measurements and instructions.

  • Elbow pasta  – I use about two cups of dried elbow macaroni pasta, but any pasta will work here.
  • Milk and cream  – Used to make the creamy and quick bechamel sauce. Feel free to substitute the whole milk if you need to.
  • The cheese  – I use a mixture of white cheddar, parmesan and mozzarella
  • The seasoning  – a little bit of garlic powder, onion powder, mustard powder, and white pepper.

HOW TO MAKE 5 MINUTE MAC AND CHEESE

Follow these steps to make this recipe:

Boil the macaroni: Cook the macaroni pasta according to the package directions, or until the pasta is al dente.

Drain and make the roux: Drain the water from the pasta, then add the butter stirring constantly until the butter has melted. Once the butter has melted add the flour and whisk well.

Add the milk: Whisk in the milk, cream, and the seasoning. Add salt to taste, then bring to a boil until thickened.

Add the cheese: Once the sauce has thickened, remove the pot pan from the heat and stir in the cheese until melted and creamy.
