HOW TO MAKE BUTTERMILK WAFFLES
- Combine the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Mix the wet ingredients: In another mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, melted butter, and sugar.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients: Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredient mixture. Stir well to combine removing large lumps.
- Make the waffles: Heat the waffle iron then pour the batter into the hot waffle iron and cook until golden brown, 3 to 4 minutes. Continue until you have used all the waffle batter.
PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE
- Preheat the waffle maker. Make sure the waffle maker is nice and hot before adding the batter. A hot waffle iron will ensure crispy, perfect waffles every time.
- Keep cooked waffles warm. Place the cooked waffles on a sheet pan and keep them warm in a preheated oven at 250°F until you are ready to serve them to prevent cold, soggy waffles.
- Top with fresh fruit. Blueberries, sliced strawberries, and bananas are a yummy way to top the waffles. I also like to drizzle on some chocolate sauce or sprinkle them with a little powdered sugar.
- Use room-temperature dairy. I always take out my eggs ahead of time or place them in warm water to ensure that they are not too cold before adding them. I also place the milk in a microwave for a few seconds to remove the chill from it.
- Double the recipe. This recipe makes about 4 waffles, but can easily be doubled or tripled for a crowd!
