If you’re tired of the same old beef burger patties, then you must try this chicken burger. While it won’t transport you into the cosmos, it will still blow your mind. Not to mention the lean protein that you’d get from each bite 😉

I love serving chicken burger patties with other recipes, such as Strawberry Lemonade, Peach Iced Tea, and Potato Salad. I also love adding fresh Pico de gallo and Guacamole to these burgers, Yum!

CHICKEN BURGER PATTY INGREDIENTS

Jump to the bottom of the recipe card below this post for full ingredient measurements and instructions.

  • Ground chicken  – I use 1 1/2 pounds of ground chicken
  • Breadcrumbs – Japanese bread crumbs give these burgers a superb crunch, but regular breadcrumbs also work really well.
  • Garlic – about 1 clove of garlic, or add in a little more if you want here.
  • Red bell pepper – Only a little for a hint of sweetness
  • Parsley – Add a hint of freshness to the chicken patties.
  • Shallots – I use shallots in this recipe, but any onion will work here including chives, white or red onion.

HOW TO MAKE CHICKEN BURGER PATTIES

Making these chicken burgers are as simple as mixing the patty ingredients to cooking and assembling. Follow the steps below to make this recipe

Combine the patty ingredients: In a medium bowl, mix all of the patty ingredients together to thoroughly combine, then season with salt and pepper.

Form the patties: Divide the meat mixture into five patties. Place the patties on a lined sheet-pan, or a plate and slightly press your thumb down in the middle of the patties. This will help the patties cook evenly and help them avoid shrinking. Place the formed patties in the refrigerator for 1 to 3 hours.

Cook the patties:  Preheat a grill or a non-stick skillet over medium heat, and add oil to coat the bottom of the pan or the gill. Add the patties and cook for 5 to 6 minutes per side. The chicken burgers are done once they reach an internal temperature of 165°F  when inserted with an instant read thermometer.

THE TOPPINGS

As with any recipe, toppings. You want to make sure that your “mess is in place.” Chicken burgers are no exception here. To make sure that your burger is hot, buns are toasted, and toppings are cold and crispy. Prep the topping, then cook your patties (keeping warm), then finally toast and butter up those buns! Below are a few delicious ideas to build a chicken burger fit for a king!

  • Tomato Bacon Jam
  • Sliced Cheese – Sliced cheddar, Monterrey Jack, Swiss, or provolone cheese.
  • Sliced Tomatoes
  • Onions – grilled or sliced
  • Pickles
  • Pico de gallo – one of my favorite toppings!

Arrange in patterns or sprinkle them all over the cake. I like using the decorating ideas above because they not only make the cake look very attractive, but they also hide small mistakes!

PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE

  1. Don’t over mix. Avoid over mixing the patties by only mixing the ingredients until combined. Over mixing could led to tough and chewy burger results.
  2. Allow the burger mixture to marinade. If you want to ramp up the flavor on these burgers, then marinating the meat is key. Marinating the burger patties will intensify the flavor, making them taste even better! To marinate the burgers, place the burger mixture in the refrigerator to marinate for 30 minutes up to 24 hours.
  3. Add the spice. If you are looking to make a spicier version of these chicken patties, add a little minced jalapeño or Serrano pepper to the patties.
  4. Grill. Nothing beats the flavor of meat cooked on an outdoor grill. While these burgers can be made inside or in the oven, outdoor grills provide beautiful grill marks and the wonderful grilled taste that you get at gourmet burger spots.

HOW TO STORE CHICKEN BURGERS

To store leftover cooked chicken burgers, wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or place in an air-tight container, and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

CAN YOU MAKE CHICKEN BURGERS AHEAD?

Chicken burgers are indeed make-a-head. To make this recipe ahead, follow the steps to make the patties. After the patties have been mixed and formed, line on a sheet-pan or large platter and place them in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours.

Freezing: If you plan on cooking these burgers much later, you can also freeze the patties until you are ready to cook them. To freeze the burger patties, place them in an air-tight storage container and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to cook them, remove them from the freezer and let thaw completely in the refrigerator.

CAN I MAKE THIS ON THE STOVETOP?

Yes, these chicken patties can be made on a stove or on an outdoor grill. I prefer using a large cast iron skillet when making burgers via stovetop due to it’s ability to conduct heat and perfectly sear these burgers.
