The holidays are my favorite time of year because I get to spend more time with my family while also enjoying foods that I probably only eat once or twice a year. One of my favorite holiday eats is Honey Glazed Ham, and this recipe is sweet, tangy, and oh-so juicy! Succulent ham, basted in a delicious glaze simmered in butter, sweet honey, brown sugar, pineapple juice, and the perfect blend of spices, making this the perfect Honey Glazed Ham recipe fit for all occasions!

Ham is one of those mouthwatering dishes that brings me back to my childhood. My family always prepared a ham for holidays like Easter, Christmas, and New Year’s. Most people look forward to one of two things around this time… gifts and food. There’s no doubt at all that they’ll be filled to the brim after trying this homemade ham recipe that I am gifting to you 🙂

As the holidays creep up on us, we are sometimes short on time when it comes to prepping. I like spiral hams because they are already precooked and ready to go, giving me more time to make memories and enjoy the festivities. Many spiral hams come with a glaze packed for you to put together too, but why use those when you can make something more delicious and from scratch?

Now I know what you might be thinking, but don’t knock it till you try it! This ham recipe will have you running back for more with each bite with its perfect glaze gernerously basted on the tender ham. The wonderful flavors of spices like ground clove and allspice will fill your home with the smells of wonderful holiday aromas as it bakes.

HONEY GLAZED HAM INGREDIENTS

Jump to the bottom of the recipe card below this post for full ingredient measurements and instructions.

Spiral Sliced Ham  – One 8-10 pound bone-in spiral sliced ham. These are already “pre-cooked” so we will be warming it in the oven.

Honey  – a good quality real honey

Butter – unsalted real butter for richness and flavor

Brown sugar – I like to use packed dark brown sugar because of it’s deeper flavor.

Dijon mustard – adds the perfect amount of acidity to balance out all of the sweetness in the glaze

Pineapple juice – adds a bit of tangy sweetness to the ham

Spices – allspice, ground cloves, and garlic powder

HOW TO MAKE HONEY GLAZED HAM

Follow these steps to make this recipe:

  1. Gather the ham: Remove the ham from the refrigerator, remove all packaging, and set aside for 1 hour before roasting.
  2. Prep the ham: Place the ham on a roasting pan with a rack, flat side down. Cover the ham with foil tightly and roast in a preheated oven at 325°F for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  3. Make the glaze: In a saucepan, on medium-high heat, melt the butter, then add the rest of the ingredients. Stir well, then season with salt and pepper. Simmer over low heat for 8-10 minutes, whisking constantly, until the glaze is thickened and slightly reduced in volume.
  4. Glaze the ham: Remove the ham from the oven and remove the foil. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F then brush with generous amounts of the glaze to coat. Place the ham back in the oven and continue roasting for another 5 to 7 minutes, continuously coating the ham with the glaze until carmelized and glossy.
  5. Serve: Remove the ham from the oven and allow it to rest for 8-10 minutes before serving. Top with the remaining glaze.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH HAM

This Honey Glazed Ham is delicious on its own but is also wonderful alongside these holiday favorites:

CAN I MAKE THIS RECIPE IN A SLOW COOKER?

You most definitely can! This recipe is crockpot/slow cooker-friendly and ready. To slow-cook this ham follow these directions:

  1. Spray the slow cooker with a non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Make the glaze according to the directions listed in the recipe.
  3. Place the ham in the slow cooker and brush with half of the glaze.
  4. Allow the ham to cook for about 6 to 8 hours or until it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F. Rotate the ham on its back side halfway through cooking and baste it with the remaining glaze every hour until done.

PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE

  1. Bring the ham to room temperature. Removing the ham from the refrigerator an hour before baking it will allow the ham to cook evenly.
  2. Cover the ham before baking. Tightly cover the ham with foil before placing it in the oven. This will keep all of the ham juices trapped inside, preventing the ham from drying out. You can also add a little water or vegetable stock to your roasting pan before placing it in the oven, but I don’t think that it is necessary.
  3. Glaze making. The glaze can be made beforehand, or you can make it right about 10 minutes before removing the ham from the oven in the first round of baking. If you choose to make the glaze beforehand, please be sure to reheat the glaze well.
  4. Give the ham time to rest. For the juiciest ham, allow it to rest for about 5-10 minutes before serving.
  5. Slow cook it. Adding the ham to a slow cooker is perfect for those who like the slow and low approach or are short on time. Follow the slow cooker instructions listed above.
