With summer in full swing, this recipe is the perfect light and refreshing meal to enjoy when the weather is hot, and you wouldn’t even dream of turning on the stove or oven. The best part is that It only takes 10 minutes to make and enjoy.
This salad is also perfect for all occasions, but especially during spring and summer when the berries are large, bright, and especially sweet. Salad Greens – Any salad greens or mixture will work here including spring mix, power green mixtures, spinach, and arugula mixtures.
Strawberries – Fresh, sweet in-season strawberries are the only way to go here. Slice them in half or quarter them if you like.
Blueberries – Plump and delicious blueberries add a sweet, tangy flavor to each delicious bite.
Red onion – sliced or diced red onion adds color, subtle spiciness, and crispness to the salad.
Cheese – Feta cheese adds the perfect amount of salt to help balance out the sweet berries.
Basil – Fresh basil is probably one of my favorite additions to this salad. Fresh basil smells so good and I love the sweet and peppery notes it adds to the salad.
Walnuts – The walnuts add a mild yet earthy crunch to the salad. Feel free to toast these on the stovetop or oven or just toss them right in!

HOW TO MAKE SUMMER BERRY SALAD
Follow these steps to make this recipe:
- Make the dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the brown mustard, white wine vinegar, honey, chopped parsley, and minced shallots. While constantly whisking, slowly drizzle in the olive oil and continue to whisk until combined. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.
- Make the salad: In a large bowl, add the salad greens, basil, sliced onion, strawberries, blueberries, walnuts, and feta cheese.
- Add the dressing and toss: Drizzle the mustard vinaigrette over the salad, then toss well to combine.
PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE
- Use In-Season berries. As I have mentioned before several times, in-season is the best way to go here. Not only do things typically cost less when in season, but they also tend to be at their peak of freshness, which means they are sweeter and taste better!
- Swap the cheese. I love feta cheese, but that doesn’t mean you have to. Swap out the feta in this recipe however you see fit. If you are looking for an easy swap here try Cotija. Cotija is a Mexican cheese that is also mild, fresh salty flavor, and crumbles well.
- The nuts. I feel you can’t go wrong with the nuts you choose for this salad. If you want to swap the nuts here try pecan halves, sliced almonds, or chopped peanuts.
