I love a good moist and chewy brownie. I don’t get to eat brownies often, but when I do, it’s definitely an indulgent experience. These brownies are not only soft, chewy, and chocolatey, but also have the perfect shiny, crackly top. I love to warm my brownies just a little bit before serving them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I told you, it’s an experience. lol

BROWNIE INGREDIENTS
Jump to the bottom of the recipe card below this post for full ingredient measurements and instructions.
- Flour – All-purpose flour, or if you have gluten sensitivities, swap it out for gluten-free flour of your choice.
- Cocoa powder – Natural cocoa powder is fine, but you can also use a Dutch-pressed cocoa powder here, too.
- Butter – unsalted, real melted butter for richness and flavor, but can be substituted for plant-based alternatives.
- Chocolate – a high-quality chocolate is always going to be recommended, but chocolate chips work well, too. I typically use whatever I have in my pantry at the moment. I may have chocolate chips one week and a good quality dark chocolate the next.
- Sugar – I use granulated sugar, but brown sugar also works.
- Eggs – help to add richness and structure to the brownies
- Vanilla – a good quality vanilla extract

HOW TO MAKE BROWNIES
Follow these steps to make this recipe:
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Then grease an 8×8-inch pan, and line it with parchment paper.
Step 1: In a medium bowl, sift the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Set aside
Step 2: In another bowl, add the sugar and 1/4 cup of the chocolate chips.

Step 3: Melt the butter, then pour it over the sugar and chocolate. Mix together until the chocolate melts.
Step 4: Whisk in the eggs and the vanilla extract.

Step 5: Fold in the flour mixture and the remaining chocolate chips.
Step 6: Pour the mixture into the prepared 8×8-inch pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

BROWNIE RECIPE TIPS
- The flour. There are two things I want to call out here. The first is that if you have a gluten allergy, be sure to swap out the all-purpose flour for a gluten-free alternative. The second thing I want to mention is to make sure not to over-mix the flour once you add it to your mixture. You want to fold in the flour just until it’s incorporated into the mixture.
- The chocolate. I always recommend using good quality chocolate when you can; however, chocolate chips will also work in this recipe. Dark chocolate is my favorite chocolate to add to brownies, but don’t be afraid to use a mixture of milk chocolate, semi-sweet, and bittersweet chocolate to the brownies.
- Baking. For chewy brownies, it is important not to over-bake them. The brownies should bake for about 30-35 minutes in the oven, or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean. If you check the brownies with a toothpick and the toothpick comes out too gooey, continue to bake the brownies for another 5 minutes or so. In my oven, the brownies take about 30 minutes to bake.
- Cooling. Once you remove the brownies from the oven, place them on a cooling rack to cool completely while still in the pan. This will help the brownies set, resulting in delicious brownies with a perfect fudgy texture.
