SMOKED SALMON DIP INGREDIENTS

Jump to the bottom of the recipe card below this post for full ingredient measurements and instructions.

Smoked Salmon  – I use cold-smoked salmon for this recipe, but you could also use fresh hot smoked salmon here too.

Cream cheese  – Plain cream cheese, any brand will work. Make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature; this will ensure it whips up nicely for the dip.

Sour cream  – Gives this dip nice tangy flavor. Be sure to use room-temperature sour cream here.

Mayonnaise  – We’re only using a little here, any brand of mayonnaise will work here.

Lemon  – I love adding fresh lemon zest and juice to this dip. Feel free to add more or less if you like.

Dill  – pairs well with the salmon and lemon, giving this dip lots of fresh, vibrant flavor.

Shallot  – Shallots are nice and mild, making them perfect for the dip. If you can’t find fresh shallots, red onions or chives will also work here.

Sun-dried tomatoes – This is my secret ingredient. The sun-dried tomatoes add a slightly sweet, tart flavor to the dip and pair well with the salmon.

HOW TO MAKE SMOKED SALMON DIP

Follow these steps to make this recipe:

  1. In a large bowl or in the bowl of a food processor, add the softened cream cheese, mayo, and sour cream. Using a hand mixer, beat the ingredients together until combined, whipped, and smooth.
  2. Add the lemon juice, dill, minced shallots, minced sun-dried tomatoes, and smoked salmon. Mix to combine and season with salt and pepper to taste. If using a food processor, pulse the mixture until smooth. Place the mixture in an air-tight container and refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.

3. Garnish with chopped dill and salmon pieces. Serve with toast points, sliced bread, or crackers.

PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE

  1. Using room temperature sour cream and cream cheese. You want to make sure that the sour cream and cream cheese used are at room temperature. This will ensure that these ingredients will whip up light and creamy for the dip.
  2. Swap the salmon. Not a fan of salmon? Swap the smoked salmon in this recipe with smoked trout, catfish, or tuna. Any of these beautiful fish will work well in the dip.
  3. Add capers. Capers add a delicious, salty, lemony tang to the dip. It also can be used as a garnish as well.
  4. Swap the sour cream. Try Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a low-fat option with tons of protein.
