It is made with tons of ripe bananas, sweet cinnamon, and rich butter. You only need a few common pantry ingredients to make banana bread, and it’s a great way to utilize overripe bananas!

We are bananas about banana bread in my house…See what I did there? Because of the banana bread… Anyway, We always have bananas on hand in my home, so make this recipe very often. You don’t need any special equipment to make this recipe, nor do you need to spend a lot of time standing over the mixing bowl, mixing and creaming ingredients together. As a matter of fact, I find myself always throwing this recipe together. I literally mean throwing by the way! I just toss all of the ingredients in a bowl, give it a good mix and bake it.

Banana bread is a simple, all-purpose recipe to make for a quick breakfast, snack, or any time of day bread. This recipe is also customizable, so feel free to add in some chopped walnuts, pecans, chocolate chips, dried fruit, or even yogurt if you choose to. There is nothing like the smell of delicious, sweet banana bread baking in the oven. I especially enjoy warm slices of banana bread in the morning with a large cup of coffee. It’s a delicious way to start your day!

BANANA BREAD INGREDIENTS

Jump to the bottom of the recipe card below this post for full ingredient measurements and instructions.

Bananas – About 3 very ripe bananas

All-purpose flour – unbleached, all-purpose flour, but you can also use bread flour here too.

Eggs – I use two eggs to bind everything together.

Sugar – Granulated sugar and brown sugar. I have also substituted the granulated sugar for coconut sugar on occasion and it was so good.

Vanilla extract – Real vanilla extract or vanilla beans offer the best flavor

Butter – I use real butter, but this can be substituted with vegetable oil

Nuts -Completely optional, but any kind of nuts work here including, pecans, walnuts, and almonds.

HOW TO MAKE BANANA BREAD

Follow these simple steps to make this recipe:

  1. Prepare the loaf pan: Grease and flour an 8×4 inch loaf pan, then preheat the oven to 350° F.
  2. Make the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, salt, and baking soda. Add the melted butter, sugars, mashed banana, and eggs and mix until combined. Then, top with chopped nuts, if using.
  3. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 350° F for about 1 hour or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean.

PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE

  1. Using room temperature eggs. Make sure that the eggs used are at room temperature before making banana bread.
  2. Correctly Measure the flour. It’s important to add the correct amount of flour to prevent a dry, crumbly banana bread. If you do not own a kitchen scale, be sure to fluff up the flour in its container, spoon it into the measuring cup, and level the top.
  3. Swap the nuts. If you’re not a fan of walnuts, swap them for pecans, almonds, or macadamia nuts in this recipe. You could also use candied nuts here or omit the nuts, making this bred nut-free.
  4. Add Chocolate chips. Try adding a handful of chocolate chips to this recipe for an extra special treat.
  5. Add sour cream or Greek yogurt. Try Greek yogurt or sour cream for added moisture and to help balance the sweetness of this banana bread.
