There’s a Korean fried chicken restaurant near where I live, and they make delicious chicken. My family used to go there often on weekends as this was one of our favorite treats. Sadly, with the cost of things these days, we rarely go there anymore. This recipe is a budget-friendly way to satisfy our craving for tasty Korean fried chicken without the guilt of eating traditionally fried food.

Jump to the bottom of the recipe card below this post for full ingredient measurements and instructions.
Chicken wings – two pounds of chicken wings
Hot sauce – Crystals, Franks Red Hot Sauce, Louisiana
Ketchup – Used as a base for the tangy sauce
Spices – Proper seasoning is key! I use garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to season the wings just right.
Sugar – packed brown sugar, can be substituted with granulated sugar or coconut sugar.
Honey – Can be substituted with Agave or maple syrup.
Sesame oil – Gives the sauce a nice nutty flavor, any brand will do.
Mirin – Can be substituted with rice vinegar
Soy Sauce – I use a good quality light soy sauce, but this can be substituted with dark soy sauce.

HOW TO MAKE KOREAN AIR FRYER WINGS
Follow these steps to make this recipe:
Prep the chicken by gathering it and patting it dry to remove any excess water. Place the chicken in a large bowl. Season the chicken wings with salt, pepper, onion, and garlic powder, and toss well.
Preheat the Air Fryer to 390 degrees and place one layer of chicken wings inside. Cook the wings for 10 minutes. Then, flip the wings over and cook them for another 10 minutes. The wings should be crispy and browned.

Make the sauce by adding the chili flakes, vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, ketchup, sesame oil, and hot sauce in a medium bowl. Heat on the stovetop for 5 minutes until warm and the sauce begins to bubble. You can also place the sauce in the microwave for 5 minutes. Remove the sauce from the stove or microwave and allow to thicken.
Add the sauce by pouring it over the wings in a large bowl, and toss to combine well. Top with sesame seeds and green onions and serve.

PRO TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE
- Marinate. For more flavorful wings, toss the wings together with the seasoning, then place in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours.
- Space out the wings. Be sure to space the wings out in the air fryer to allow enough room to crisp while cooking. Placing the wings too closely together will cause the wings to steam cook, preventing them from developing the crispy brown skins that make them so delicious.
- Double the sauce. If you want extra saucy wings, double the sauce, you won’t regret it!
